Two successive herpetological surveys were conducted as part of a mission to improve knowledge for the development of a management scheme, supported by a partnership between the Albanian institutions and French Conservatoire du littoral. Both campaigns have enabled a state-zero herpetological knowledge on the island of Sazani, but some species remain potentially present. The island has a herpetological population consists of one spécies of amphibian and eight reptiles. Algyroides nigropunctatus represents the most original population, rare species on the continent and abundant on the island.
The main threat appears to be habitats closing dynamic now abandoned by the local population, and the lack of permanent water point.
