CAIPIM (Know, Act and Innovate to Protect the Small Islands of the Mediterranean and Macaronesia) is the new project led by the Conservatoire du littoral and Initiative PIM, in close collaboration with the Mediterranean Institute of Marine and Continental Biodiversity and Ecology (IMBE), and supported by the FFEM and the Rhône Méditerranée Corse Water Agency! Its objective: To demonstrate the importance of small islands for biodiversity, and to assess the impacts of global changes on these micro-island spaces in the Mediterranean and Macaronesia, in order to better protect them. The planned scientific monitoring and ecological restoration actions will be deployed through a large network of sentinel islands, presented by their managers at the launch event held online on Friday, January 17, 2025!
The first working group, which aims to develop harmonized and replicable monitoring protocols for all sites, met on February 12, 2025 via videoconference. The project managers and experts were able to consolidate future scientific monitoring methods together.

A big thank you to all the speakers, and to all our technical and financial partners!
