From October 16 to 19, 2023
After the 3rd Conference on the Small Mediterranean Islands organized in Bizerte (Tunisia) in 2012, PIM Initiative and the Conservatoire du littoral organized the 4th Conference on the Small Mediterranean Islands in Lipari, in Sicily (Italy), from October 16 to 19, 2023, in partnership with the NESOS association, and thanks to the financial support of the FFEM (COGITO project) and the Rhône Méditerranée Corse Water Agency. These four days of conferences provided an opportunity to take stock of the actions carried out in favor of the Mediterranean islands over the past ten years, and to consolidate the strategy for the coming decade. The program sought to reconcile academic presentations with feedback from concrete experiences in terms of conservation. A significant part of the agenda was devoted to discussions, to promote exchanges within the community of protectors of these islands and strengthen the links
between its actors. This major ten-yearly meeting of the community of island defenders enabled funders,
NGOs, managers and scientific experts to discuss the partnerships that have been established, the cross-border strategies that have been deployed and the tools that need to be developed to strengthen cooperation between all stakeholders, with a view to better managing and protecting small islands.
