Sanguinaires Archipelago – The NGO Initiative for the Small Islands of the Mediterranean (PIM), with the support of the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB) and in partnership with the Joint Association of the Sanguinaires Islands – Pointe de la Parata (SMGS), is stepping up its marine bird conservation efforts in Corsica by launching a rat elimination program on the Sanguinaires Archipelago, starting on September 1, 2025. Teams will ensure the smooth running of the operation in the field until October.

Notice to visitors to the archipelago – To ensure the success of the rat extermination operation, visitors are asked to:

  • Stay on marked trails
  • Keep their dogs on a leash
  • Do not feed wild animals
  • Take their food waste with them
  • Do not touch the traps (black boxes)
  • Be careful not to transport rats on their boats

About the OFB and the LIFE project “Mobile Marine Species” (EMM)
The French Office for Biodiversity (OFB) supports the operations carried out by PIM Initiative in the Mediterranean as part of its mandate to protect biodiversity. The rat
eradication program on Mezu Mare Island is funded by the LIFE EMM project, coordinated by the OFB, and supported by 13 partners who implement conservation actions for migratory marine species throughout France.
